As Promised

As promised, here's a photo of the July Baubles project I worked on during our trip to LA. These are great travel projects because of their size and the repetition of the designs. I usually stitch on these while I wait for my daughter to make her way out to the car in the morning during the school year. (None of my children are "morning people.") This and the August Bauble will be finished into a double-sided cube-it. . .someday.

I'm enjoying the last few days of my summer vacation. Yesterday I put the borders on the quilt for my sister's Christmas present and this morning I sewed the backing. I also began the layout for another quilt that I'm hoping to get pieced before I go back to school.

On the non-stitching side of things, my husband was out of town last night so my daughter and I went to see The Ugly Truth. We chose it mainly because my son's college roommate is the assistant to the manager of one of the actors and I had never seen this person in a movie. I would say, don't bother. No chemistry between the main characters, and totally predictable. My daughter and I agreed that we were bored by it. We ended the evening by watching Steel Magnolias on TV which is a far superior film.

    Susan I enjoyed reading about your trip to LA - I have never been to Cal before - Arizona is the farthest west I have ever been. Sounds like you had a wonderful visit with your son. Your little piece is very cute and WHOOHOOO on finishing the christmas present before you head back to work - WOW - summer sure seemed to fly by didn't it. Mel

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! Mine was the first of three weddings my parents planned, and since I had spent the summer in Pennsylvania working and setting up our new apartment, most things fell to my mother. My parents decided to have the reception in my hometown and that meant there was only one venue--the "supper club." Actually, this was the basement of the local pool hall/bar and had formerly been a bowling alley when my mother was a teenager. Although there wasn't a private room, my parents figured very few people other than wedding guests would be there since it was also the weekend of the county fair. Friday Finish

For at least the past two years, the duClay EGA chapter has hosted a stitch-a-long based on a designer.  Members are free to stitch any design by the designer and it's fun to see what projects everyone is working on.  This year, the chosen designer was Plum Street Samplers.  I had *several* charts to chose from, but decided on Rubie Owl's Sampler.  I used DMC threads on a 36 count linen from my stash and finished it yesterday.  I love the autumn colors and that little owl sitting on top of the tree.  In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to say that stitching those leaves drove me a bit crazy.  I ended up making a working copy of the chart and marking each leaf off as it was stitched since I found it easy to lose track of where I was. WIP Wednesday

We are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Four nor'easters in March is just cruel and I've had enough of this cold weather.  The upside is that it makes it easy to stay inside and stitch.  I'm making progress on a few things, but for reasons not clear to me, I've had a hard time settling down with one project.  I had the pleasure of taking two classes with Catherine Theron at the end of March.  You can see the projects she taught on the Salty Yarns website by clicking on the Events tab.  When I got home I was inspire to find the piece from the first class I took from Catherine at the Delaware Valley Historic Sampler Guild  many (maybe 10??) years ago.  This will become a Quaker sewing case. During class, I struggled putting in the black for the Florentine pattern which is why I put it away all these years.  After looking at it closely, I found and corrected several mistakes.  I fill...
