Ain't We Got Fun


In several of her recent posts, Nicole had pictures of quilts from this book. I especially liked the Beach Cottage quilt and thought it would be a perfect use for the blue and green print that begged to come home with me from the quilt shop a few months ago. My copy of the book arrived this afternoon (along with a few other goodies from the Fat Quarter Shop) and I've been drooling ever since.

Friday Finish

For at least the past two years, the duClay EGA chapter has hosted a stitch-a-long based on a designer.  Members are free to stitch any design by the designer and it's fun to see what projects everyone is working on.  This year, the chosen designer was Plum Street Samplers.  I had *several* charts to chose from, but decided on Rubie Owl's Sampler.  I used DMC threads on a 36 count linen from my stash and finished it yesterday.  I love the autumn colors and that little owl sitting on top of the tree.  In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to say that stitching those leaves drove me a bit crazy.  I ended up making a working copy of the chart and marking each leaf off as it was stitched since I found it easy to lose track of where I was. I'd love to know what's been keeping you busy!

All's Well That Ends Well

I know better. I really do. My "Keep Me" sampler was finished in July and languished in a pile of things waiting to be framed. One night in December, I decided to take a break from writing Christmas cards (which, frankly, were a bit of a chore at that point) and get my sampler ready to take to the framers. Like I needed to spend more money in December. When I took it out, I noticed a smudge on the top that would show when it was framed. I decided I could spot clean it. You know, just a little dab of water on the spot. And you also know how one thing leads to another which caused the overdyed threads to run. A lot. Panic ensued until I remembered the "cure" for this problem. Suffice it to say that "Keep Me" was soaked within an inch of its life and all of the dye came out. My framer helped me pick out a lovely green frame that I perfectly compliments the greens in the sampler and I couldn't be happier to have this hanging on the wall.

For the Good Times

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! Mine was the first of three weddings my parents planned, and since I had spent the summer in Pennsylvania working and setting up our new apartment, most things fell to my mother. My parents decided to have the reception in my hometown and that meant there was only one venue--the "supper club." Actually, this was the basement of the local pool hall/bar and had formerly been a bowling alley when my mother was a teenager. Although there wasn't a private room, my parents figured very few people other than wedding guests would be there since it was also the weekend of the county fair. Sometimes I miss life in small town Nebraska. Mostly not. Turned out they were right, but choosing that venue also meant that they...
