WIPocalypse #5

Thanks to the Delaware Valley Historical Sampler Guild's retreat in Ocean City, Maryland at the end of April, I have lots of progress to show you this month.  The piece above is Carriage House Samplings  Alphabet.  I spent quite of bit of the retreat stitching those black boxes, and there was no frogging involved!  I have the separate patterns for each alphabet letter and most of them call for using Sampler Threads Bittersweet for the fill-in at the bottom of the block.  I was never crazy about the color (probably one of the reasons this piece has been in the WIP pile for so long) and while I was at the retreat, I auditioned a couple of different colors.  Sampler Threads Antique Rose won and I'm happy with the choice.

I also started this piece at the retreat.  I threw this in my bag at the last minute just in case I needed something with a large count when my eyes got tired.  I started it on Sunday morning before we left and eventually, it will become this.

At home, I continued working on Not For Us Alone for a few nights, but it's been put aside while I work on Sergei.  The plan is for that poor lady on the left to have a head and for the column on the left to be completed by the end of June.  I couldn't get a good picture of the detail in the arch of the column on the right.  That's filled in with pin stitch and it takes quite a bit of time to do.  The effect is great so it's worth the process.

I joined a local gym at the beginning of April and not only is the time spent there cutting into my stitching time, but I'm finding that as soon as I sit down on the couch and pick up a needle, I start to yawn and fall asleep.  Definitely not helping my progress on any of these pieces, but my clothes are not as tight!  I'll be done with work in three weeks and will be able to shift my gym time to the morning and my stitching time to the afternoon, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a few finishes this summer.

  1. All your WIPs look great! I know what you mean about the Bittersweet fill in on the alphabets. I like the Antique Rose color you picked. Your Not for Us Alone is looking good. I wonder if I'll ever get back to mine. So bad. Good for you for joining a gym too. I need to get back to exercising more than I am.

  2. I think I am going to LOVE the alphabet! Nothing more likely to put you off stitching something than a thread that you don't like. So glad you found a substitute. Well done on the gym, I started Nordic walking a year ago and my goodness, has it made a difference!

  4. Love all the WIP's you showed Susan - that Amy Mitten piece is one of my faves however I don't own it (surprise right!) I think your Rose is going to be a good fit for the CHS alphabet pieces. Glad you will soon be out of school. Have a good week - mel

  5. One day you will tame your WIP. I am glad the gym time helps you to lose weight.
