Friday Finish!

I managed to go above and beyond my One Monthly Goal and finish the Box of Chocolates mini-quilt.  This one was a lot of fun, all the way from choosing the fabrics, putting the blocks together, quilting a free-hand wavy line and choosing the buttons.  Sewing on the buttons was not fun, but I was determined to make this a finished quilt.  My plan is to hang it on the door of my sewing room for Valentine's Day.

It's hard to believe that July is almost over.  I had a great time taking a needlepoint class from Kathy Rees (Needle Delights) in Jacksonville and spending time with the ladies at duClay over the weekend of the 15th and 16th.  Then I was off to Hershey, PA on the 21st for the annual Quilt Odyssey show.  I took an appliqué class from Mimi Dietrich.  Her instruction was so good that I have total confidence that I'll be able to successfully hand appliqué.  I also took a shorter class on English Paper Piecing and picked up some good tips.

On the home front, my sewing room furniture is being delivered on Monday, so I've had to clean up a lot, and I've completed a couple of small things that have been lying around.  I really like how uncluttered my work space is, so maybe I'll stick to one project at a time when the room is set up again. (And if you believe that, I may have a shiny bridge to sell you...).

    Congratulations on meeting your monthly go and going beyond with finishing your mini quilt! I think it turned out great and I really like the buttons. I hope you will share pictures of your new set up once you get it in place. Enjoy your weekend!

    Susan it was sure awesome spending the weekend with you at the Kathy Rees class. Hope to see you again next summer at our retreat. Love your box o' chocolates quilt - so pretty ! Hope you continue to enjoy the dog days of summer. Hugs Mel

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! WIP Wednesday

We are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Four nor'easters in March is just cruel and I've had enough of this cold weather.  The upside is that it makes it easy to stay inside and stitch.  I'm making progress on a few things, but for reasons not clear to me, I've had a hard time settling down with one project.  I had the pleasure of taking two classes with Catherine Theron at the end of March.  You can see the projects she taught on the Salty Yarns website by clicking on the Events tab.  When I got home I was inspire to find the piece from the first class I took from Catherine at the Delaware Valley Historic Sampler Guild  many (maybe 10??) years ago.  This will become a Quaker sewing case. Happy Birthday, Winter Baby

This is our daughter's 18th birthday, and coincidentally, my brother's birthday. They were born 40 years apart--you do the math. My third pregnancy was a surprise. I don't usually tell people since I don't think it's fair to my daughter to advertise that. I'm sure none of you will break it to her, though. Because I was an "older" mother--all of 38--I had some genetic testing done early in the pregnancy. The alpha fetal protein test, the one that checks for neural tube deficits like spina bifida, came back positive twice and I ended up having to have amniocentesis. We chose not to find out the baby's gender. My daughter was due on December 12 and early in December, my doctor was telling me that it would be any day. On the 12th I had definite signs that labor should begin soon, but nothing happened. On the 17th, I went to the hospital to be induced.
