February OMG

It's time to set One Monthly Goal and link up with Elm Street Quilts.  This time, I chose a new start as my focus for the month.  I joined a group that meets at my local quilt shop the last Thursday of each month.  It turns out that nearly everyone in the class is also in my quilt guild so that makes it even more fun. The group  has been meeting for about three years and the focus is making small quilts from the book 101 Fabulous Small Quilts (That Patchwork Place).  They decide on a quilt and spend two months making it.  For January and February, the quilt is Leaf Chain.  I love the autumn colors and I was able to find all but one of the fabrics for it in my stash.  My goal is to have the quilt top pieced this month.  So far, I've completed one block (only need 8 of these)


 and half of another (also need 8 of these)



so I'm confident I'll accomplish this goal.  I'm still not too sure about that green square, but I think it will be OK with the border fabric.  If not, I have more choices on hand. 

The quilt for March/April has already been chosen and I didn't have any trouble finding all the fabrics for it in my stash.  Although some may have a different interpretation about the multiple bins in my closets, I prefer to think of it as my pre-retirement fabric collecting finally paying off.  Yes, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! Mine was the first of three weddings my parents planned, and since I had spent the summer in Pennsylvania working and setting up our new apartment, most things fell to my mother. My parents decided to have the reception in my hometown and that meant there was only one venue--the "supper club." WIP Wednesday

We are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Four nor'easters in March is just cruel and I've had enough of this cold weather.  The upside is that it makes it easy to stay inside and stitch.  I'm making progress on a few things, but for reasons not clear to me, I've had a hard time settling down with one project.  I had the pleasure of taking two classes with Catherine Theron at the end of March.  You can see the projects she taught on the Salty Yarns website by clicking on the Events tab.  When I got home I was inspire to find the piece from the first class I took from Catherine at the Delaware Valley Historic Sampler Guild  many (maybe 10??) years ago.  This will become a Quaker sewing case. At Long Last

I finally have a finish!  Here is Susan Rambo in all her wrinkled glory.  I stitched it on a vintage 36 count fabric that is close in color to the amber/toasted almond Wichelt fabric called for in the SANQ chart.  The fibers are Needlepoint Inc silks.  I love the colors and this is my all-time favorite sampler.
