Stitching Along

This blog has been quiet, but I've actually been stitching quite a bit this year.  Here's my progress on Starstruck, a charted needlepoint design by Kathy Rees of Needle Delights, done in the blue/green colorway.  The duClay EGA chapter in Jacksonville, Florida is hosting a stitch-along for any Kathy Rees design, and I'm delighted to stitch with them.  

I took a class, Afternoon Leisure Basket, with Sherri Jones at Salty Yarns in Ocean City, Maryland last weekend.  I'm headed back down to OC tomorrow for my guild's spring retreat.  I spent a large portion of this afternoon deciding on projects to take and organizing my stitching bag. There are six projects, all WIPs, in my bag.  My goal is to make a lot of progress on Ellen Chester's Milady's Workebox, and do some work on Ann Smith (The Scarlett Letter).  Over the years, I've learned to take projects that are at the stage of filling in solid areas of stitching or that require minimal counting.  To that end, I'm also taking Marriage of Minds (Drawn Thread) and may get some more of the grass filled in. Hope you get to spend a lot of time stitching this weekend, too.

    I've noticed you've been absent from blogland - glad to see you here and see a photo of your GORGEOUS Starstruck. That is probably my favorite KR piece. In her presentation to us last year I just fell in love with it. Oh I am so jealous you got to do that Afternoon Leisure Basket with Sheri. Can't wait to hear more! You lucky gal getting to do a retreat weekend. Hope you enjoy it to the max and get lots done. Enjoy! mel

    Starstruck looks gorgeous and you've made great progress! I haven't started mine but have been thinking about it. :)

    I don't like to do stitching that requires a lot of counting either at stitching gatherings - especially trees because I mess up on them enough when I'm alone! Looking forward to hearing about your retreat!

    Intermittent blogging is better than NO blogging so stay with us please! Your needlepoint project is awesome .....I've avoided needlepoint because I already am overwhelmed with cross-stitching and quilting stash and can't afford another obsession, but I enjoy seeing the beautiful projects I see others doing.

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! Mine was the first of three weddings my parents planned, and since I had spent the summer in Pennsylvania working and setting up our new apartment, most things fell to my mother. WIP Wednesday

We are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Four nor'easters in March is just cruel and I've had enough of this cold weather.  The upside is that it makes it easy to stay inside and stitch.  I'm making progress on a few things, but for reasons not clear to me, I've had a hard time settling down with one project.  I had the pleasure of taking two classes with Catherine Theron at the end of March.  You can see the projects she taught on the Salty Yarns website by clicking on the Events tab.  When I got home I was inspire to find the piece from the first class I took from Catherine at the Delaware Valley Historic Sampler Guild  many (maybe 10??) years ago.  This will become a Quaker sewing case. Happy Birthday, Winter Baby

This is our daughter's 18th birthday, and coincidentally, my brother's birthday. They were born 40 years apart--you do the math. My third pregnancy was a surprise. I don't usually tell people since I don't think it's fair to my daughter to advertise that. I'm sure none of you will break it to her, though. Because I was an "older" mother--all of 38--I had some genetic testing done early in the pregnancy. The alpha fetal protein test, the one that checks for neural tube deficits like spina bifida, came back positive twice and I ended up having to have amniocentesis. We chose not to find out the baby's gender. My daughter was due on December 12 and early in December, my doctor was telling me that it would be any day. On the 12th I had definite signs that labor should begin soon, but nothing happened. On the 17th, I went to the hospital to be induced. On the way, my husband and I speculated about what the baby would look like. We already had a boy wi
