Aaaah. . .

That's the big sigh you may have heard from me as I eased into the weekend.  This is the first weekend all fall that did not include traveling (can't really count the weekend of the snow storm as we were supposed to have gone to a cross country meet that Saturday).  My house is also breathing a sigh of relief since it's been cleaned and my husband is thankful that I actually cooked a meal tonight.  It's the little things, you know. 

So now the dishes have been washed, the laundry has been folded and put away and I've even done some ironing.  Time to settle down at the sewing machine for a bit and make two more of these blocks.  Then I can assemble the twenty completed blocks into a top.  The pattern is Sweet Sixteen although I can't recall at the moment who designed it.  I got the fabrics in a kit awhile back and as I'm trying to use what's already in my stash, it seemed like a good candidate for  a leader/ender,  Except that when I got everything cut out, I just kept going.  My true confession about this quilt is that I'm not crazy about the fabrics and wish I had thought of just selling the kit before I started cutting.  I've also reached the point in my quilting journey where I want to do more complicated patterns and this just doesn't fit that bill.  I'm sure this one is going to be a gift in the future and since I don't want to give the quilt bad karma, I'll just try to enjoy the rest of the piecing.

    I'm with you, Susan, about wanting to do more intricate work. Takes longer but with the cost of fabric, that is a GOOD thing!

    Enjoy your weekend to yourself! I think the block is pretty despite the simplicity. The fabrics are nice too.

    I feel like we are living parellel lives! Weekend travels, the house the needs cleaning and a dinner that I should be cooking.....hopefully today I will 'catch' up to your accomplishments....but then again, it is going to be nice out so the jury is out. Your fabrics - AS ALWAYS - are awesome. I always love your choices. You seem to make easy what I find as my hardest part.

Today is my 35th wedding anniversary. We were married in the church in my hometown in southeast Nebraska. No air conditioning and people thought my husband was nervous when they saw him shaking his leg. He was just trying to get the sweat to run down it a bit faster! WIP Wednesday

We are not so patiently waiting for spring to arrive in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Four nor'easters in March is just cruel and I've had enough of this cold weather.  The upside is that it makes it easy to stay inside and stitch.  I'm making progress on a few things, but for reasons not clear to me, I've had a hard time settling down with one project.  I had the pleasure of taking two classes with Catherine Theron at the end of March.  You can see the projects she taught on the Salty Yarns website by clicking on the Events tab.  When I got home I was inspire to find the piece from the first class I took from Catherine at the Delaware Valley Historic Sampler Guild  many (maybe 10??) years ago.  This will become a Quaker sewing case. Happy Birthday, Winter Baby

This is our daughter's 18th birthday, and coincidentally, my brother's birthday. They were born 40 years apart--you do the math. My third pregnancy was a surprise. I don't usually tell people since I don't think it's fair to my daughter to advertise that. I'm sure none of you will break it to her, though. Because I was an "older" mother--all of 38--I had some genetic testing done early in the pregnancy. The alpha fetal protein test, the one that checks for neural tube deficits like spina bifida, came back positive twice and I ended up having to have amniocentesis. We chose not to find out the baby's gender. My daughter was due on December 12 and early in December, my doctor was telling me that it would be any day. On the 12th I had definite signs that labor should begin soon, but nothing happened. On the 17th, I went to the hospital to be induced.
